CONSULTATION FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions About EMDR Consultation

What is the difference between a Consultant-in-Training and an EMDRIA Approved Consultant?

As a Consultant-in-Training (CIT), I have completed the requirements to be an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and am working under the supervision of an EMDRIA Approved Consultant to develop my consultation skills. My consultation work is regularly reviewed to ensure it meets EMDRIA's high standards.

How many consultation hours can a CIT provide for EMDR Certification?

If you're seeking EMDR Certification, I can provide up to 15 of the 20 required consultation hours. The remaining 5 hours must be obtained from an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. Additionally, while I can provide a letter of recommendation, you will also need a letter from an EMDRIA Approved Consultant for your certification application.

Can a CIT provide the consultation hours needed to complete EMDR Basic Training?

This depends on your EMDR training provider's policies. Some training providers allow CITs to provide the 10 consultation hours required to complete basic training, while others require these hours to come from EMDRIA Approved Consultants. I recommend contacting your training provider to confirm their policy before beginning consultation.

What are the benefits of working with a Consultant-in-Training?

Working with a CIT offers several advantages, including competitive rates, current knowledge of EMDR practices, and the opportunity to benefit from my supervising consultant's expertise during our work together. As a CIT, I bring enthusiasm, dedication, and a structured approach to helping you develop your EMDR skills.

How do I know if consultation with you will be accepted for my EMDRIA requirements?

I am happy to provide documentation confirming my status as a CIT, which you can share with your training provider or EMDRIA as needed. For certification applicants, I can also help coordinate with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant for the additional hours and recommendation letter required.
